ISRAEL ATTACK ON GAZA PALESTINE
In response to a Hamas operation, Israel launched a retaliatory strike that resulted in the loss of 230 Palestinian lives. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a state of war due to this unprecedented attack, which caused the death of at least 250 Israeli citizens.
On October 7, 2023, Palestinian militants seized control of an Israeli military vehicle after infiltrating southern Israel from the northern Gaza Strip. The situation rapidly escalated, resulting in significant casualties on both sides. Israel's national rescue service reported over 250 fatalities and numerous injuries, making it one of the deadliest incidents in Israel in years. The attack, which commenced at 6:30 am local time, included rocket barrages originating from various locations in Gaza and the infiltration of fighters into Israel by land, sea, and air.
From military headquarters in Tel Aviv, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the nation, announcing that Israel was now at war and warning that the enemy would face an unparalleled cost. In response to the attack, Israel initiated a series of air raids on Gaza, targeting Hamas positions.
Mohammed Deif, a senior Hamas military commander, referred to the rocket fire as the inception of "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood" and urged Palestinians worldwide to oppose the Israeli occupation. He characterized it as the day of the most significant battle to end the last occupation on Earth.
Amid the chaos, Palestinians celebrated as a military vehicle belonging to Israel burned after being attacked by Palestinian gunmen who had infiltrated southern Israel.
Israel's military advised residents living around the Gaza Strip to remain in their homes, cautioning that Hamas would face severe consequences for their actions. There were reports of Palestinian fighters opening fire on civilians in the southern Israeli town of Sderot. Footage on social media depicted uniformed Palestinians involved in confrontations, and another video showed an Israeli tank on fire, surrounded by jubilant Palestinians.
Israeli warplanes initiated airstrikes in Gaza under the name "Operation Iron Swords," and Israeli troops engaged in ground combat in various locations within the besieged Palestinian enclave. Witnesses in Gaza reported hearing loud explosions, and residents expressed deep concern about the ongoing attacks.
The situation in Gaza was described as dire, with residents anticipating a challenging and unsafe night ahead. Many expressed shock and fear as Palestinians breached occupied towns and villages beyond the barriers in a manner previously unseen.
